Let’s Go That Way

We were on our way home from Brian’s pediatric dentist who is a good hour and a half away (two hours today with traffic unfortunately) when the sky suddenly opened and floodgates of rain came pouring down on our car.

I turned the wipers up as far as they would go but it was relentless and I was struggling just to make out the center line.  I put on my blinker and pulled over into an abandoned parking lot.

Corbin was laughing and making up some story about Zeus and Poseidon and the Titans to explain the sudden torrential downpour.  Brian was in the backseat yelling, “Let’s go!!”.

I tried to talk to  Brian and let him know I, too, thought it was silly that we were sitting in this empty parking lot waiting for the rain to let up just a little.  He kept getting louder, “Let’s go!  Let’s go!  Let’s go!”

He finally got so frustrated that I wasn’t getting the true meaning of his words.  He scrunched up his nose.  Thought long and hard and yelled while pointing up the road,

“Let’s go!  That way!  Let’s go Thomas!!”

Our Last Thomas Trip

Of course it was my luck that where I pulled over was right before the turn to get to the Boothbay Railway Museum where we have gone to see Thomas the Train on several occasions.

No big deal that the last time was three years ago and he still remembered what road we would take to get there.  Meanwhile my oldest child thought we were in Waldoboro.

There are some skills that Brian has that conquers Corbin’s ability- directionality and memory are two of them.

Thankfully, I was able to explain that Thomas wasn’t there today, and he was fine with continuing on Route One towards home once there was a break in Zeus’s tears.
